outboard motor size question for a 14' boat
Message:
I have a 14' deep v boat that I looking for an outboard for . I need a short shaft and they are hard to come by or are priced to high. I found a motor that is a 7.5 Merc from the 80s that has low hours on it and a good price.
Will a 7.5 be to small for a 14" boat? I would like to be able to go in the river and the sound on calm days.

Bass Addict, the 7.5 should be OK, just don't expect to set any speed records with it especially going up current with the river.

The 7.5 should be ok, just get a bilge pump perminately mounted in the stern of your boat if your going to put her in the sound. Wakes from bigger boats on the river and the sound will definately make their way in to a small boat, never mind getting caught in a good rain storm.
