Saturday
Fished the race at first light for a steady pick of bass to 36" over a couple hours, tossed several shorts back in the process, and kept 4 to take home.
Bass were hitting diamond jigs or 3-wayed buck tails in green or pink.

Headed over to Isabella Beach on the South side of Fishers Island to try for some fluke. Drifted in 40-50' of water (49 degrees) using minnows or squid. The minnows were the bait of choice with a 2-1 catch ratio. Stayed for a couple hours and caught 2 keepers and 4 shorts.
Monday
Again fished the race at first light for bass to 36" over a couple hours, the bass were much harder to find today. Even the charters were all over the place trying to locate a decent school for their customers.
Again the bass were hitting diamond jigs or 3-wayed buck tails in green or white. Had 3 bite offs due to bluefish.
Fished Isabella Beach again for short fluke and a mess of skates.
Anyone else notice a real lack of boating activity on the fishing grounds? The western end of the race had only 3 boats other then us at 11AM on a holiday weekend

The lack of boats is probably due to fuel prices, it will keep the ham and eggers of the water for sure.

Gas Prices could be putting a damper on the boating season. I was on the CT river on Sunday which was a beautiful day and there was only 4 other boats that launched where I was. Usually there is a line of people and the parking lot is full.
