Upper Hous Smallie Fun -- These Past few weeks

I'm sorry for not posting more river reports, but to tell you the truth it really hasn't been super great fishing. I thought I would amagamate my observations and catches over the past week or two in the hope that condensed information might prove useful, so here goes: 1) The water over the past week or so has beeen slowly warming and is now, I would estimate in the low 60s or so, it's still kinda chilly. even with the warm days. 2)The rain that we've had over the past few days has kicked up a bunch of sediment over the past few days and the water is pretty dang cloudy but as of yesterday it was starting to settle out. The water level is also coming down and is getting to the point where I can actually creep along the rocks and banks now whereas last week I was pretty much completely flooded out. 3)The water level is still high enough that the current is moving pretty good and the fish have yet to move out into the current. I believe that the cool relative temp is also keeping them out of the holes that they frequent as summer rolls around 4)most of the fish that I've found, in fact all but the smallest fish, have been found on the sides of the river, usually up along rocky embankments. 5)The crayfish have started to come out but they are only about 1 inch long at this point. Resultantly, I have not had much luck with fullsized tubes as I believe the fish know there's something up when they see 1" crays everywhere and then a 4" thumps on by them. I'm sure in a few weeks the bite will come back on w/ them as well. 6)Most of the luck that I've had has come with ribbontail worms in a 6" flavor and a dark reddish color. I've just been texas rigging them and casting upstream and letting it float down. I've also had some luck in higher current areas dropping the lure right in front of me and then back-reeling it downstream around rocks and whatnot. This method almost seems to be working better than the upstream casts as you can let it drift and then stop the lure, twitch a bit, see if there's anything nibbling, and then let it go further downstream. It's the first time I've ever really taken off the anti reverse, and its def. a different feeling then usual, but it seems to be very effective. Most of the fish have been in the 1 to 1.5 pound range. Nothing amazing, but still fun. I hooked into a 3 pounder finally yesterday after weeks of searching for SOMETHING bigger and was really excited to get it. I have pictures of the recent catches and I'll post them tonight when I get home. It gets annoying to pull out a camera for small smallmouth when you're already perched rather precariously next to the river and really don't feel like swimming.

Pics still forthcoming... couple of corrections 1)The big crayfish are out... I'm just an idiot and can't catch fish and was looking to excuse myself from my poor performance by blaming nature. 2)The water is actually a little wamer than I said in my post, but again with no thermometer, anything cooler than boca feels cold to me.

I watched a show on discovery and it showed a way to catch crawfish. If anyone is interested: Cut the top off a gallon jug, about halfway down. Place a piece of fish in the bottom of the jug. Lodge it on the bottom and put rocks around the outside of the jug.So they can climb up and into the jug. Once in the jug they cant get out.Crayfish can not swim up,they only get elevation from propeltion I am sure many of you know this but i figure i would pass on the knowledge
