Upper Hous -- Combo Post
Message:
Thought I'd take a minute to write a little report on the goings on with the upper hous and the water and such along with a picture from a prior outing.
I've been remiss in my posting and as well my fishing has dropped off recently as work has been very busy. The weather hasn't been cooperating much here either as its beautiful until about 4PM on the dot (When I get out of work) and then it freakin pours. Seems like almost every day, and judging by the river level, I think it has rained a lot every day. First the picture:

I pulled this smallie out of the Hous up in Ashely Falls mass a couple of weeks ago when the water was down a bit. I was having no luck casting upstream and drifting down but there was a very nice rock edge just down stream from me I couldn't get at. The current was pretty strong though, so I dropped a Yum Ribbontail worm right at my feet and backreeled it downstream, stopping every few rotations and giving a little twitch. Did the trick and I pulled that sucker out, my first every from that location!
I've been spending a lot of time in Falls Village fishing, and for you guys planning on coming up at all for the smallies, be aware that the Amesville crossing (by the power plant in Falls Village) has been closed so no more river crossing there.
I went upstream for the first time ever to fish the small pools above the power plant and was suprised to find a lot of decent smallies in there. By far though the best pool is the one right at the falls. I don't think I've ever fished in a prettier location truth be told.

I've heard there are big brown trout in this pool too, but I didn't see any. To give you an idea of the scale of it, if you look on the right hand side of the picture you can see halfway up the rocks a full size wheel and tire that got swept over in one of the storms, that's how big this is.
If you're fishing up here soon, be aware that the river is VERY high from all the storms, it's also quite dirty and it carries that way all the way down to at least Kent. I have been fishing in the evenings when I can and haven't seen a single thing breaking the surface, which is kinda odd for this time of the year. There is also a lot of debris in the water from the storms (full on trees and such), adding a level of pain-in-the-ass to it.
Anyways, that's about it. Hope to see some of you out on the water!

lol,was just at falls village sat. heres the report
a few of us got together from another ct fishing site to floattube the upper housy.it was a long day for me.about a 200 mile trip to get there and home again.i left the house at 4:45 and got there at 7 am,found the place no problem, the water was high we were going to start at the power plant in falls village, but due to the high water and rapids we started down stream.we drifted to the rt. 7 bridge in an hour and a half.i missed 3 fish,a few others landed a couple.we decieded to do another drift to the covered bridge in west cornwall.for most of the drift, nothing for a bite,we had a few small rapids.near the end a few were starting to pick up some.just as the covered bridge came into veiw i landed an 18 inch brown.the only fish for me on the float.it ended up being the biggest.to end the day,we had a cook out.it was a perfect day,but the fish gods were not smiling on us.but the company a food were good.ended up getting home a 7 pm
