Rogers 7/6/08

Hit rogers with my brother Justin as a part of a family vacation in Saybrook. Fished 6-11am under cloudy skies. Water temp was 80 most of the day. Weeds on Rogers are thick with huge coontail under the surface.
We fished buzzers on the top early morning to get this as we trolled out of the launch

That would be the first fish my broyther has cought in 17 years: He and I were big into it as kids and both drifted away for different reasons. Seems has hasen't lost the touch....
I hit a dink on a spook, a few perch on a rogue, another small bass on a crank....
By 9 am, i had the topwater stuff packed away and we set out on cranking some deeper drops....My brother tied on a silver spook at this point...I laughed to myself knowing full well the topwater bite was done for the morning....He learned to make it walk....I just kept my mouth shut and cranked away.....All of a sudden, Justin gets whomped on the spook and sets the hook into this

Scale said 4.8 lbs ....Could easily fit my fist into his mouth.....
That would be it for the kid...2 fish, but a nice trophy that we returned to the water to fight another day....I hit a rainbow and a few more LMB on some cranks...

Our best 5 would have gone about 10 lbs.....
Nice day out with family with a pretty good kicker fish.
later,
Brennan
