weighing in

I just picked up a relatively inexpensive rapala digital scale, and I was wondering whats the best way to use it. I've seen it done by having the hook placed behind the gill plate, where the mouth meets the gill, and i've seen it done by putting the hook right through the bottom lip. I'd imagine putting it under the gill plate can be dangerous to the fish?

It's a tough decision.... It is dangerous to put the hook near its gills because if they get damaged it can compromise the fish's life and I've never been an advocate of putting unhealable holes in a fish's mouth but that's up to you.....Ive seen way too may fish that have huge gapping holes in their mouths that you could put your hand through....... it doesnt look very good.....
I prefer the scales that have the two claws that load up with the spring. (like a boca grip) They dont peirce a hole but hold the fish very tight......
It's a tough decision......
