When you see them on the river its a sure sign fall/winter is on its way, as they are some of the first birds to migrate south in the winter. The crazy hairdo is on a female, and they're much smaller than your standard duck. The mail has a blackish/greenish head and is white with black on the leading edges of his wings, not nearly as amusing as the female.
