Old Lyme shore fishing 5/16/09

Figured I'd post my most recent saltwater progress this season. Hung out on the beach fishin and drinkin with some friends from about 11am to 6pm on Saturday. Our first fish was a nice 30 inch striper which we threw back. After that we ended up with a 5 inch baby striper, 2 skates, and a 15 inch keeper blackfish (which we also threw back) The weekend before that I was fishing around the mouth of the CT river and hooked up with 3 stripers all in the 20-25 inch range. Also got 2 skates at a diff spot that weekend. The skates are kind of annoying... had no idea there was so friggin many around. Used sandworms in some fashion for all the fish mentioned here. I DID have pics, but the disposable camera i was using fell in the water.... I'm wondering if its even worth trying to get it developed now.. grr!

Well my usual shore spots in Old Lyme are fairly inaccessable and require alot of walking (or paddleing of the kayak in my case) Those spots are between Rocky Neck, and an area called Sound View. I'd recommend the DEP headquarters (Ferry Landing state park I think it's called in the link below) They have a fishing peir that extends into the mouth of the CT river by the railroad bridge. Went there a few weeks back with my last 2 sandworms and hooked up within 30 mins. Mouth of the CT river or any other tidal rivers would be a safe bet for stripers. I'm sure there are way more productive spots along the shore. I'm quite confined in my shore fishing spots so if anyone else knows of any, i'd be glad to hear.
