Farmington

Hit the Farmington after I mowed the lawn :roll:. Got my first shad at 3lbs 12oz. and one alewive. Stayed till dark but that was it.

what is this shad of which you speak? Us mountain folk are not familiar at all with these fish? (I'm serious, my fishing my whole life has been confined to this watershed, never fished anything anywhere remotely salty)

Shad is just a big alewive. You can catch them in the CT river and tributories in the spring when they migrate the river to spawn. They've been referred to as "the poor man's salmon" as they fight great on light tackle and jump. They can get upwards to 7lbs. Can be caught using willow leafs and shad darts.
