Subject:
CT River Stripers?
Message:
Fished the CT River out of Wethersfield Cove on Sunday and made a run up to the Hartford Power Plant discharge ~5:30am looking for some striper action. Water was 63° and about 3 ft visibility. Man, nothing is more frustrating than seeing small topwater blow-ups all around you and not figuring out what they wanted. Threw houdinis, bombers, dannys, and almost the kitchen sink but no takers. Afterwhile ran down to Hamburg Cove to see if there were any action down there. Once inside the cove I was ecstatic!! There were huge surface blow-ups with tail wagging dives back into the depths. I was pysched and ready! But once I got closer I was really dejected at this point. These blow-ups were nothing but 10-20 lb CARPS that were making all the comotion. Afterwhile put away the striper gear and took out my bass lures. Manage 2 bass within 10 minutes on a tube bait. Ran into Tom from Reynolds as he was making his way back to his dealership in the cove and he remarked how tough the river was today. At least I didn't catch the skunk!

Always have a large silver castmaster with a bucktail. Lots of times in the river these blow ups are bluefish. You can have a field day with them.
