New to fishing

Greetings... So my brother finally convince me to get a fishing license this year, my first one in over a decade. Growing up I would spend maybe 10 minutes fishing then get bored and end up swimming. so after a month of hounding my brother got me to get a license for opening day to hang with him. Well since I paid 10 bones for this receipt looking thing I figure I will get my money's worth and fish a little on my own. I am becoming quite fond of this sport and looking to become more knowledgeable one the subject. I have found many sites with great archives both video's and text articles. I figured I should jump on a local board like this to get learn more of course and hopefully find some others around the Meriden area that wouldn't mind showing someone new the ropes. So far I've been fishing Black Pond with soft plasitc lizards and minnows which has yielded me with many chain pickeral and one crappie. Cool for me since I never fish and it's all new and I could use the practice. So yeah...new to site...new to fishing....and just saying hey... anyone around my area give me a shout!! I am heading out to black pond again today sometime after 4:30 and won't leave till the sun goes down.

edit button is on the bottom right i believe, but welcome to the site man. I know theres a few people from Meriden on here, theyll talk to you im sure.
