Tackle Box/Bag Recommendations
Message:
I stopped by Dick's today because I'm in the market for a new tackle box or bag but I couldn't make up my mind so I left without one. I was wondering what your thoughts were. Do you have recommendations, pros, cons, etc...about what brands and types you like. I don't want anything huge but large enough to carry what I need for a day on the lake or river.
I've never used the bags before but I like the organization they offer with the interchangeable plastic box inserts. I'm just a bit worried whether they hold up well and if they are impossible to clean or not. Most tackle boxes don't smell too great after a while and I'm a bit worried the bag will absorb odors more than the hard plastic boxes. Thanks for any info you can give me.

I've got one of the bag type tackle boxes. I love it for the fact that it's waterproof and holds 6 trays and has an assortment of pockets

Dawg, it all depends on what you're looking for. Like rods and reels everyone has their favorites. If you're looking for something versatile and changeable get a soft bag with plano boxes inside that way you can mix and match and take certain boxes for the certain "types" of fishing you're looking to do that trip. These systems are great because as you increase your techniques and find the need to get more tackle, all you have to do is get more plano boxes. I've even seen soft tackle boxes that look like back-packs that you carry just like a back-pack which is great if you do alot of moving around like fishing from shore. If that's not your style then get a regular tackle box with slider drawers big enough to hold everything you think you're gonna need but you definitely don't want to overload them so much that it's a strain just to carry them around. I used to use several suit case size tackle boxes and one of them got sooo heavy that the handle and the surrounding plastic lid litterally broke off. That to me was a sign that I needed to reduce their weights and better sort out my tackle into a more manageable soft bag system also. Good luck figuring out what you're looking for Dawg.
