Lakeville 7-23

Headed out to Lakeville this morning with a former student and a friend of his. We were on the water by 8:00. Water temp was mid 70's. It started to rain when we hit Winsted and was misting when we launched, but we never got rain after launching. Pressure was 29.4 and falling. Skies stayed pretty cloudy most of the morning. We were off the water by 1:00. Spent the first half hour getting the kids set up. Zach caught a nice sized pickrel and bass during that period on a shakey head worm in watermelon.. I kept them on the outside weed edge just off the launch near the marina on the left. Water had an algae bloom which turned it green an limited visibility. Generally the weed edge appeared to be from 14-18'. From there once they we set we made our way up the west side of the lake fishing the weed edge out to the area around the island. We fished there and a couple of humps in the are that rose up from 40' to the mid teens or better. Generally fishing the from outside weed edge and into the weeds. I picked up a good size pickrel and a nice LMB that went 17". Sorry, I forgot the camera in the truck and when I realized it I wasn't going all the way back for it on trolling motor power only. From there I went in search of another hump located on the map and my GPS which I marked but they must be in error because search as I might I couldn't find the supposed hump as the water remained a consistent 70'. I moved from there to the final hump we fished for the day which was near the south shoreline. Picked up another pickrel and another 17" bass to go along with a 14" bass. The kids spent the last hour of the trip sleeping as they both stayed up way to late the previous night. Next time I'll tale a fellow fisherman and be able to better focus. The nearly 90 minute drive was the only real negative of the trip. For a shorter 1st time trip with my boat I was pleased.
