Bashan 8-20

Hit Bashan this morning with Mike, a student of mine from the last school year. We were on the water at 8:00 and off at 2:00. Water temps were 80-82 degrees. There was a gentle breeze coming from the direction of the launch most of the day, but it was still hot out there. Early on taught Mike how to run the trolling motor and even let him fish from the front deck at times. [img:45c2e55cc1]http://www.ctfishtalk.com/gallery2.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=6253[/img:45c2e55cc1] This also freed me up to change lures, fix tangles, etc. without loosing boat position. I wanted him to catch a fish which he finally did down in the back in the cove by the dam. A nice little keeper smallie on a drop shot using a black grape finesse worm in about 10' of water. Mike's a good kid and the fishing was pretty productive catching 11 of the typical Bashan bass in the 12-14" range. 10 were LMB and 1 SMB. All the LMB came on the same drop shot I had Mike fishing in about 10' of water. The day started and ended great with three fish on four casts in drop shot alley coming out of the launch, including the superstitious first cast / first fish and another 4 on the way out 2 in back to back casts, which I let Mike reel in and land. The others came from the back cove where Mike caught his smallie. The SMB came on a black with red fleck spider grub pitched at a rock in about 8' of water on the left side of the lake just down from the first bay.
