On the water at 8:15 off by 1:30. Water temps were in the mid 70's. Sky was overcast for most of the day. Tried the shallower area to the left of the lunch first for a while without any action. Took a 3# out of there previously. Then went out and started fishing the drop offs on the humps out in front of the island. Found pickrel [8] all around the humps in anything from 12 to 18' of water all on a black grap finesse worm drop shotting. Moved shallower 6-10' and found some bass [4] the two keepers the largest over 2# all on a wacky rigged jighead fishstix in Christmas Tree color.
It was somewhat of a lazy trip for me and I enjoyed catching the pickerel. A couple were over 4# and put up a nice fight. But, I've got to learn to move on and change tactics faster, only covered half of the spots I know and didn't explore any new water.
I was just happy to get out and hook into 12 fish after the first week of school, which was chock full of all kinds of time consuming stuff. Hopefully the following weeks will go a smoother and I can get out on Saturdays.

Even though its a 90 minute drive for me I love for two reasons 1) No boat traffic with the 9 hp restriction and 2) I can catch a good number of fish (even if its mostly pickerel) on nearly every trip. Although I will be focusing more on really looking to target the bass which appear to be shallower than the pickerel. Although a 5# pickerel puts up a pretty nice fight taking drag and all.
