fly leader

how far back can you cut a leader before you decide to put a new leader on, not useing a tippet what to get the hang of it first. but i'm thinking thats what the tippits are for so you maintain the length of the leader and just keep adding the tippet.

It all depends on what line and kind of fly you are using..... If you are using floating line with a dry fly I usally wont go shorter than 3'... If i am using weighted sinking line i will not go any shorter than 6'..... These are things that i would do... river conditions and rod sure do play a part tho....
