Lakeville- 6/8/10

My 8th grade students went on their class trip to Holiday Hill today and because of my bum right knee I bowed out, took a personal day and went fishing with my wife up in the beautiful N.W. corner of our state.
On the water about 8:15 off the water at 3:00. Water temps were in the mid 70s. Wind was screaming in from the northwest at 25 mph or better all day, which made it tough to stay on spots and forget being anywhere near where you caught a fish when you returned it to the water. Skies were overcast for most of the day and we got stuck in two showers during the afternoon which lasted long enough to have to don the rain gear.
Got a total of 14 to the boat and landed with quite a few more breaking or biting off after some good hits and head shakes, most likely pickerel. Pickerel won the battle barely out numbering the bass 8 to 6. All fish came on a drop shot most with the zoom finesse worm in black grape, changed up on the way in to a smoked purple in the same bait which did just as well. I was looking for something more attractive to the bass and less so to the pickerel to no avail. Also tried a baby brush hog in green pumpkin and the finesse worm rigged on a title shot jighead without any takers. It was hard to decipher a pattern as fish were caught from 6 to 20 FOW. The bass appeared to be shallower than the pickerel in general 6-10 FOW the pickerel were anywhere from 6 - 20 FOW. Of the bass 4 out of the 6 were the traditional 2 1/2 to 3 lbers. The lake snakes were kielbasa to salami sized. No pics of the lake snakes. Here's one of the average bass for the day.

Your crazy for venturing out in those winds today. I got pretty beat up on Highland yesterday myself. Good job catching a few in the rough conditions.

Good job Pappy,
I am surprised the wife didn't want to go home because of the wind...
