Saltwater... Light Tackle Approaches???...
Message:
What is being used on the light side for blues and stripers??... All my heavy gear is now gone, fly stuff too, and I'm looking for recommendations for areel to sit on a 7'Tica MH. Not crazy money, but good solid LIGHT salt spinning reels. I have a Shimano 4000, but I am sending that back into freshwater use. A later post in this thread warns of possible issues with older models (this one is), so a new reel is in order. Arthritis, shoulder, and back issues are finding me looking into lighter, but strong options. Any info appreciated.... tjd Looked at Penn Slammer 360 and Sargus 4000 so far.

What Shimano is it? Stradic, Saros....ect...? Most of the 4000s that shimano makes could handle a decent stiper(35 to 40 inchs) the problem you run into is line capacity from shore. Thats one thing that shimano's in general lack on. Also until you break the $100 mark they arent really made for saltwater use( mainly sealed drag and bearing material). Its a risk that you have to ask yourself if its worth it...That kind of gear makes a 25 to 30 inch fish a lot of fun, but is that fun worth the possoble loss of a big fish? I think it is cause if you do hook a big fish and land it on that gear just makes it that much better..
