Batterson Park Pond 06/25
Message:
I had a hankerin' for some walleye, so I fished Batterson from 3:15 AM to 7:15 AM this morning. The forecast was for 5 mph winds, but the water was almost like glass. Unfortunately, I didn't get any walleye. Even worse, I almost didn't get anything at all. I hadn't been to Batterson in a while and wish that someone, [i:b0d44834d1][b:b0d44834d1]anyone[/b:b0d44834d1][/i:b0d44834d1], had posted a report to let me know how weed infested it has become.
In an attempt to throw only other-than-wacky baits and lures, I left all of my worms/soft stick baits at home. I rigged up a spinnerbait and a shallow-diving Rapala before I got there. I fished the western shoreline and all I got with them was weeds. I also tried a popper, a buzzbait and a soft plastic frog on a swimming jig head. I got nothing. It wasn't until I was heading in and managed to wacky-rig a 4 inch chunk from a 6 inch Creme worm I found in the bottom of my kayak that I caught a tiny little rock bass.
I think I'm done with Batterson for the rest of the year, unless I figure out another way to fish heavy weed cover other than a soft plastic frog on a swimming jig head.

weeds are awesome. its where all the big bass hide out. if u can find a hole in the surface toss a spinner and rip it through. or just add a slide weight thing to the top of a tex style rigged worm and work it real slow bouncing ur tip to get through the crap

Yeah, but. . .

I couldn't see anything until 5:00 AM. I think I would have caught more fish if I would have had some Senkos or Dingers with me. I won't leave home without them from now on.
