SIlver Lake 6/27
Message:
Fished the lake from 6-9pm. Caught 13 largmouth mostly on frogs being skipped over lily pads. This was my first time at silver, it was successful as far as catching fish but none had any size to them (largest one being about 12" 1lbs). Like I said earlier I used a frog most of the night but also tried, senkos, x-rap, jitterbug, and a popper. I had luck on all the lures, little bass were jumping all over the lake. There were a lot of jet skiers on the lake (they have the right to be there but it would be nice if they had more courtesy for others on the lake) also the water seemed very dirty to me (I don[t recommend eating anything out of this lake). I may be back to do some fly fishing for calico but other than that Silver Lake didn't impress me much. All in all though it was nice to get out and catch fish.

Nk1190, shouldn't make a judgement about any body of water even Silver Lake on just one trip. Although alot of people say Silver is a good lake for catching alot of cookie cutters to get your fishing fix which it is true because I too am guilty of that, believe it or not there are some good lunkers in there as I have personally pulled several 5 lbers and one over 7 lbs. out of Silver. As always just gotta get to know the water by putting your time into her and she will eventually tell you where you need to go for the hot spots. From the looks of the baits you were using you probably where spending alot of time fishing near the surface. Next time try jigs, weighted tubes, worms and other various plastics and fish the deeper levels especially on a sunny day. Now remember the term deep is relative to the body of water and not a specific depth and that is something you need to determine at Silver as the deepest spot is about 16-18 feet in the middle in the channel off the island and tapers to about 3 feet along most of the shoreline flats. As for weed cover, FORGET IT, as Silver Lake gets litterally choked with weed and grass during the summer months to the point that getting your boat through gets a little tough but that's what bass love and so do the things they eat. Anyhow give Silver Lake another try because you never know you might have just had a bad day on your first trip.
