Newbie looking for a place to fish.
Message:
So i live in the Hartford area and i was looking for some good places to fish. I was hoping to do some fishing nearby. Places like the Farmington river, or CT river. I need some tips for catching the fish also. My dad tells me how he use to catch trout using nightcrawlers. Im not a newbie at fishing, but ive never went fishing in a river or large lake. Anything would help, thanks

I used to do well with meal worm in the farmington. 4 lb test mono a size 8 hook and cast it as far as you can up stream letting the current carry it back past you, sometimes i would put on a fish pimp strike indicator (tiny bobber) for extra weight and a longer cast. also a silver or gold spinner works good.

If you live in Hartford, I would recommend trying for catfish in the CT river. They are plentiful in that area with good size as well.
Here is what you will need:
15lb test line
larger size hooks
1-3oz weights
Bait:
any chunk of meat from a smaller fish
frozen herring, even bluegill
nightcrawlers (watch out for sunfish!)
chickenliver (stick on hook and wrap fishing line around meat many times)
Where:
if you are looking at the river from Jennings Rd boat launch
1. walk to your right and you will find a small cove
2. look across the river - there is a large sandbar under the train bridge
if you are at the riverfront walk park
3. all the way to the end (downstream) fish the gravel bank inside the powerplant cove (very good)
4. also, anywhere near the bridges where the water is fairly deep.
follow these steps, fish in the evening, and you can't go wrong.
Good luck!
