DV and Myself at the Mash
Message:
DV and myself made the decision to hit some not so familiar water today. Our plan was out early and off early. The other plan was to hopefully slay some bass.
we were on the water at 6:15 and we started putting fish in the boat right away and luckily for us the bite stayed real good until about the last hour or so. we bailed at 11:00. Hot bait today by far................jigs. They didnt want much else. i caught a few on a tube and derek may have caught one or two on something else but id say 90% came on jigs. We got fish mostly from rocky areas with deep water and weeds near by. We missed more fish today then we would like to admit. Both of us did. seemed someone was always swinging the rod, hooked up, getting hit, etc. But we put on a very bad show with how to have fish come unbuttoned close to the boat. LOL
They were hitting alot on the drop today and it seemed we were both having issues keeping them on the hooks. Id roughly guess we hooked into 2 dz fish today with about 1/2 making it into the boat and the other half being long distance releases. It was a great morning numbers wise and size wise with most of our fish being keepers and many in the 2lb range. more largies then smallies but we did get 1/2 dz smallies or so. was awesome out there and we bailed just as it was starting to get real hot and the bite died down. Glad we made the drive to the Mash. 2nd time there for me today and i was impressed. We jumped around from spot to spot and just about all of them put out some fish. Great morning trip! Guessing our best 5 would have gone 12lbs or so. Thanks for joining me derek.

Thanks for having me out man, It was a good time. I threw a jig almost 100% till I tossed it right in a tree and killed my bite. I also got a few hits and jumpers on an anaconda but the jigs were killing it. I got 3 quick fish right off the bat until I lost about 5 in row. I almost lost it when I lost a 3 RIGHT at the boat, shoved my rod down to keep him from jumping like the rest and just lost pressure. The rest of the fish just had superior hook throwing skills, I mean I sank the hell out of widegap jig hooks past the barb and put the pressure on but IDK! Plus half the time they hit on the fall while I'm ashing cigg or staring at the sun, then they just swam right at you. I managed to redeem myself later in the day by landing a 3+ smallie in the CTR, they must not be as advanced as the fish in mash. And the smallmouths were caught in largie spots and vice versa, also the fishiest looking places were dry. Best pattern was no pattern.
No pictures, the bite was pretty hot for awhile and my lazy ass wasn't fumbling in my pockets for crappy cell quality pics.

Somebody must have taken these fish from Mansfield Hollow and put them in Mash! I had the same problem there with good hooksets, but the fish would all haul ass right towards the boat and jump to throw my hook. I watched my hook fly from at least 7 bass that day while they were in the air. All were on a spinnerbait, too, so there was no slack between bite and hookset. Do you think these fish have been caught alot and actually learned how to throw a hook? That's what it seemed like to me. Both places get heavy pressure from bass fisherman. I don't know , but I'm just sayin'.............
