Housatonic Smallies 7-18
Message:
Time: 8AM - 12PM Location: A good stretch of water from West Cornwall area down to Cornwall Bridge Water Temps: High 70s to mid 80s (according to Guide) Depth: 0-6 FOW Clarity: 1-1.5 feet, varied from muddy to stained Guided Trip with Ethan from Housatonic River Outfitters (highly recommend) Wanted to do some fishing with my brother who was up visiting from North Carolina and used it as a perfect excuse to hit the Housie for the first time. It paid off with my best day of smallie fishing ever. We floated the river in fiberglass boat. I got 8 total and lost 2 good ones (one break off and another just threw the hooks). Best 5 probably would have gone 12-13 lbs. 4 15 - 17" fish in the 2.5 - 3.5 class (no scale), and a 1.5 pounder would have been the best 5. First time catching more than just a couple smallies, so I was thrilled. Fish were caught on 6 pound flouro on a rapala jointed crawfish crank (diver), and a lipless Strike King Red Eye Shad in Sexy Chrome. No luck with tubes or grubs. Fish were caught in all types of water from super shallow fast moving areas to deeper holes with still water. Had a great day. Yesterday we caught a couple at Rainbow where we ran into BASSNJAY who loaned my brother a rod (we weren't really there to fish). In all, it was awesome to get back on the water for the first time since May - gimpy leg and all. My brother didn't find any size, but he caught some fish and had a great time. It was great having him up here for a quick visit and a few nice fish. His first experience with smallmouth bass. I envy your camera and your photos. Those are some nice fish, I have always wanted to fish the housie for smallies but never have, even when I lived 15 minutes away from it.

Great, more smallies! Lessee, now I gotta get a northern pike, a bowfin [i:f4b84fcdae][b:f4b84fcdae]and[/b:f4b84fcdae][/i:f4b84fcdae] some decent smallies. I guess it's good to have goals in life.
