Hit Highland with Phil (PECo). It was our first time fishing together and Phil's first time to Highland. Tough fishing. We couldn't really figure them out. We threw at docks, a creek channel, weed lines, rocks and wood. Were were everywhere from 15 FOW to very shallow. We ended up catching a few fish, but nothing of any real size. Phil did get his first smallie ever, which was nice, and I caught a rock bass that looked like a hybrid with another fish because it had pronounced leopard spotting. Phil got a nice looking sunny and I got a calico. I got 2 1.5 lb LMB. First one came on a 3:16 Lures 6" soft plastic sunfish in 15 FOW about 10 feet off the end of a dock. 17lb flouro, 8' Diawa Zillion swimbait rod with Zillion reel. 2nd LMB came hours later in 11 FOW by slowly retrieving a gold/black lipless crank and ticking it off the grass. Shimano rod, Diawa Aggrest reel. Super slow retrieve. Got the calico, and the rock fish the same way in the same area. Trip was shortened by thunder and ominous looking weather map. It was a very pretty evening and as always, it was great to be on the water. Thanks for joining me, Phil!!!

highland is a tough lake. I did a night tourney there and the bags were pretty lousy. I think 13 and change won it for 5 fish.

Nice job on getting Phil into his first smallmouth, Jed! Tough lake for sure, but it does hold some big fish.
