Decided to do this trip after a somewhat disappointing trip to Lakeville on Weds. I took out one of the guys from my church, John, on his first bass fishing trip and the bass were scarce, pickerel were plentiful. I wound up with 4 bass, two of which were beautiful 17" that fought well and 7 pickerel. John was really learning the how-to's off bass fishing and the drop shot in particular from scratch and he dropped 5 pickerel. A few put a pretty nice bend in the rod before they got off. He did land a fish on our way in, a wondering trout which as he put it was kind enough "to take one for the team." By the end of the trip I thought I had figured out what the problem was and told him we need to go somewhere where I know you get enough practice drop shotting and landing fish to improve. So off to Bashan we went. On the water around 8:00 off the water around 2:30. Water temps were in the low 80's. The lake was pretty busy from the get go, with parking at the launch tight. Initially no wind at all, by the end of the trip a light wind was blowing in from the launch side of the lake. With all the bass guys on the lake and the restriction on being on plane early, drop shot ally was pretty full at the start of the trip with three other boats fishing the area. But that didn't keep us from being able to be put a couple in the boat. Here's John's first bass. We traveled up the lake to a point just after drop shot alley and picked up a few tiny bass in what must have been a school. From there across to the danger buoy island and then up to the double island and back down drop shot alley to finish home. Well I'd have to say I think John's got it down pretty well for now. For a beautiful day on the water and a day of fishing which started slow the results were a good day of catching. John wound up landing 12 bass total. Including this last on which was 15+" a nice size for Bashan, [img:7b5e6d0462]http://www.ctfishtalk.com/gallery2.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=10791[/img:7b5e6d0462] All 21 bass were caught drop shotting in 8-12 feet of water using a black grape zoom finesse worm. He managed to out fish the captain as I only landed 9. I explained how that violated ships rule and how he should be made to walk the plank, but extended him the grace a brother in the Lord should receive and he stayed dry . It was awesome to see a newbie to fishing and someone whom I care about greatly have such an enjoyable time and doing something that I absolutely love.
