Winchester, West Hill, Farmington River 8/25, 8/26

Decided to hit Winchester last night despite the forecast being cloudy, windy & rainy. Met my buddy there around 9pm...cannot believe I found another moron who likes to challenge death on the water. He had a canoe with no anchor or motor. The rain was steady but mostly light, the wind from the north was creating nice big frothy caps on the surface, the "full" moon was MISSING...geez it was dark out there. The only light source was a house to the north. There was a thick fog on the surface of the water, so I was unaware I was cruising through stumps just past the western cove. As soon as the fog lifted I saw them all around me and had to anchor. I only got about 60% of the way across the lake. My partner showed up eventually...we tethered our boats together and looped my anchor line around a stump. We fished, we caught nothing. The wind was crazy. Checked out the western cove on the way back - there's some nice pads there but the wind wanted us dead so we headed back to the launch around 2 a.m. Here's what you missed: [youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u0Qodvdi8qk[/youtube] Next, we visited West Hill Pond since it was there. No boats...fished the launch area until about 5 a.m. It was pretty calm but uneventful aside from a few baitfish nibbles on my superfluke. The marina had plenty of lighting, but I couldn't really see anything other than that area. It seemed nice though. After that, we went wading/fishery ruining in the Farmington river. I tried for bass; it wasn't a bassy-looking area though. Partner caught an average-sized rainbow. I have no idea what town we were in...if you feel like driving on this access road for one trout, then be my guest. I took this video on the drive back because I knew you'd all love to see a video of my truck getting stuck in the mud.
