Checking in from New Haven

Hi Folks
Ill start of by saying while I was getting delivered (unexpectedly) my old man was out fishing near Charles Island. I guess fishing and the outdoors are genetic with me.
Fished fresh and salt with my parents as a kid. As I got old enough to fish on my own I would trout fish the little river in Oxford every chance I got. I also spent weekends and vacations fishing for trout on the Salmon River in Malone and Owls Head NY at my parents cottage.
In my early to mid teens we had an old timer who would stay with us. Charlie Kirk. Charlie used to have an old gas station/bait and tackle in Oxford. The town hall now resides there. Anyhow Charlie was the guy always catching fish when nobody else was. Well Charlie would take me fishing for blues and weakfish every morning and I learned a lot from him. I also had the pleasure of trout fishing with him on the previously mentioned Salmon River. He gave me my first Rapala, a black/gold original floater. That lure was a game changer for me and still is.
As I got older I became more interested in Bass fishing. In 1988 I bought a Ranger 363V. I finally sold the boat two years ago. Life just wasn't giving me the time to get out in the boat.
Now at 44 I have kind of gone back to my roots with simplicity. Twice a year I head up Kent-Cornwall and fish the housatonic for smallies.
Just about every weekend I hit Lake Wintergreen with the little woman and our dog Toby. I keep an ultralight behind the seat of my pickup so I can fish anywhere the opportunity lends itself.
I recently purchased a Shimano Curado Baitcaster and mated it with a Falcon Low Rider. My primary spinning rod and Reel are a Daiwa TDA 2500A mated with a G Loomis GL2.
Been mostly fishing some Yo Zuri minnows, Booyah Spinners and Jigs and the old Heddon Torpedo has been killing the bass
Firearms are my other interest and I own and operate a few shooting websites and forums
Glad to meet you all.

Welcome to the site. I've had some luck with a white Yo Zuri lipless crankbait this year, although it's caught mostly perch while trolling behind my kayak. I'll have to get down to your part of the state someday. The fishing sounds challenging, but I always enjoy a good paddle or pedal (in my Hobie Pro Angler).
