november 5 float and fly bass

I just bought a 9.5ft med/light spinning rod so i could try the float and fly for some cold water bass. For those of you who aren't familiar with float and fly, it is usually done with a light action spinning rod and real, 8lb or lighter fluorocarbon line depending on water clarity, and a 1/16oz malibu hair jig with a bobber 5-12ft up the line depending on depth the fish are at. This works well in water temperatures under 50deg, when you cant seem to catch them on anything else. This technique usually is used for catching smallmouth bass but does catch largemouth and crappies too. So, I went to the west thompson dam to try out my new rod with the float and fly. I got on the water at 11:00 and was off at 2:30. The water was calm as glass with just a slight breeze and water temp hovering at a frigged 47-48 deg. So I make my first cast and about 15sec. after it hit the water my bobber goes under, I'm thinking wow that didn't take long, so i pull the fish in and without much of a fight i had a 10in crappy in the boat. So I make multiple more casts for the next 2hours with out a single tap. At about 1:00 the wind really started to pick up and got a little gusty. I usually hate wind when i'm trying to fish but not today. sorry the pics are so small, I'm still learning how to get them on here. I guess i need to resize them differently.

Hit "Upload Options / Resizing" when you upload your photos to imageshack.us. You can also get rid of the labels on the photos. I'd almost rather hook a 16 inch smallie than an 18 inch largemouth. It's a coin flip, depending on the largemouth. I love that you tried the fly rod. I thought about pulling mine out after seeing the trout rising on Black Pond and Mount Tom Pond a while back. But I never thought to use it for bass.
