Sharking 7/7

Headed out around 5 am, around 14 miles out of Montauk we spotted a thresher that had to be 12 to 15 feet long. The dorsal fin and tail fin were so far apart that we first thought it was 2 sharks swimming together. It circled the boat and actually went within 4' across the bow. The water temp was only 61, we were headed out further but decided to set up in this spot. The thresher came back by the boat about a half hour later but didn't hit. We gave that spot another hour and no action so we pulled the lines and headed out another 14 miles to some warmer water. Set up and only got 1 run off in about another 4 hours. We headed in around 2:30 because the winds were supposed to pick up in the afternoon, turned out to be a great ride in, we should have stayed out for another hour or 2. Great day on the water even though we got skunked.
