CT River Mouth Stripers

Hi Everyone. I am a new user of the site and fished the mouth of the CT river (East side) yesterday for the first time. very shallow but lot's of running water and sandy bottom. Does anyone have any experience with this area of old lyme? Looks like a great place for stripers and did see a few.

The southern part of the river is great as it offers a wide range of saltwater fishing options.
You can throw poppers/plugs in the the shallow sections, throw swimbaits and troll tubes and diving lures just about anywhere, and even use jigs toward the bottom of the channels and deeper areas.
The fish can move through pretty fast, especially during tide changes, so a boat is helpful to stay with them. I like to stay deeper while the water is moving and go shallow when the tides slack. As you found out, much of the east side is flat, sandy bottom with water depths in the 3-5 ft range and that area can be good even at slack tides.
If you don't have a boat, shore access is kind of limited in the southern most sections from the railroad bridge down due to the salt water marshes. Good places to try are the DEP pier in Old Lyme and the Causeway in Old Saybrook.
