Unexpected Smallie 6-5 and 6-6

New to the site here. Also new to the area. Found a spot in Farmington that is either part of the river or just off the river, was told by the person who hooked me up that it may or may not be a legit spot. So I went in with my girlfriend and checked it out. The first pond was loaded with bass swimming around that were very very picky, picked up a couple within the first hour. Then headed over to the larger pond and after her first cast my gf nailed a smallie, which was great cuz it was huge for a smallie and the first that I had seen in ct. I had no luck with the same colored senko (Orange? w/ black fleck) and switched over to a Boo Yahh 1/2 oz. SPinner Bait and nailed two LMB about 1.5 lbs. Left soon after. We had driven around all afternoon looking for spots in the area, checked out Stratton Brook and Great Pond, which looked promisjng, then met a nice guy who told me he never had any luck there and thought it was hypoxic. He then told me about Nod Valley WMA, so we went down to check it out, threw a few casts, and then got scared away by the guys shooting. Went back today and nailed 1 LMB right off the bat, then switched to the other pond with fish jumping and swirling like crazy! Unfortunately they were very picky but attacked my senko on top of the water the first few casts. After that the fish wouldnt hit anything, tried a Yum Money Frog, Sweet Beaver (VD), and even tied on a rapala popper with bright yellow belly that I use for Penfield Reef. Nothing. Seems very shallow but really nice here. Tight Lines!

Hey, Big Steve! You hit some of my favorite spots in the area. I love Nod Brook WMA, but it's much better from a boat than from the shore.
