Chamberlain Lake Campground 7/30-31

Went camping this weekend at Chamberlain Lake in Woodstock. Supposed to be some good bass fishing here, seasonal campers were raving about it while we were setting up the camper/tents and unloading our jonboats. Our neighbor told us how his son has caught a 10 lber and several 8's there recently. He himself claimed to have caught what would have been a stringer of ~5 pounders just last weekend - but of course Chaimberlain is C&R only :). Got out there for a little while last night just before dusk. My girlfriend finally caught her first bass, and it was a solid 2.5 pounder! She was using a zoom junebug/chart tip finesse worm that she picked out herself, she was absolutely thrilled. The worm was texas rigged with a Matzuo(sp?) 1/0 worm hook. I like these Matzuo hooks, they are extremely sharp. A few minutes later she caught another, but this one was much smaller probably just over a pound. And that's pretty much where the story ends... despite plenty of trying those were the only bass caught this weekend. This afternoon i intentionally caught one of the many tiny bluegills by the swimming area, and lip hooked it on a large circle hook with a bobber and slip sinker. Nothing... couldn't even catch a bass with live bait. Ah well, there will be other weekends!

Well… we didn’t really fish at the best times of day, and it was sunny/hot this weekend. We got there late on Saturday which was okay, we could have stayed on the water through dusk as that’s generally a good time to fish… but after she caught her two fish she got cold so we headed in. Then Sunday I struggled to get her out there as early as possible, unfortunately that wound up being roughly 2 PM (I was ready to go at ~9 AM…). She had to leave for work at 4, so after she left I fished from the dam till about 6:30 when I had to head out. Her parents are still camping for a couple more days, so I’m heading back this evening to fish with her father from his boat. Fingers crossed that we’ll do a little better! I think I might try some topwater tonight, I have some jitterbugs, poppers, and buzzbaits that I never use…
