Besseck Lake - 8/21/11
Message:
A couple weeks ago I bought a sit on top fishing kayak and I have been going to Black Pond quite a bit. Today I decided to try Besseck Lake (first time there). I arrived about 9:45 and after a short paddle, made my way towards the far end of the lake (lots of vegetation). I was running crank baits and had a few decent hits, including one that shredded my braid - I lost a red rattling shad in the fight. Other than that mostly uneventful. Afterwards I made my way towards the dam and fished some more cranks and some power bait. Tried texas rigging under the trees, and some drop shot wacky rig, other than a couple nibbles. Didn't catch a darn thing. The wake from the jet skiers and power boats is a bit annoying there. Even though I didn't catch anything, it was a nice place and as a bonus, doesn't have as skeezy of a feel that black pond does. Just wish I would have caught something.

Hey, I like Black Pond! :D You probably got bit off by a northern pike. Try a big buzzbait the next time. Hopefully, it won't be able to bite through your braid.

Oh don't get me wrong, I like Black Pond too. The first day I got my kayak, I went out and almost landed the biggest bass I have ever caught. I had it in the boat and was trying to unhook it and it snapped my line and flopped back in. I erroneously did not have a net with me. People litter like crazy there, I have also seen a few unsavory types just sitting in their vehicles drinking (which is almost always a bad sign). Last week when I was there with my son there were a couple of guys screaming (and I do mean screaming) f' bombs like crazy. Apparently one of them splashed the other and he wanted to let everyone on the pond know. Just disappointing. Thanks for the tip on the buzz bait, I'll try that next time I'm out (hopefully in a day or two).
