West Thompson Lake/Dam 9/24
Message:
after a rather "interesting" night last night i awoke around 1 PM to find no car in my driveway. a quick call to my friend and i realized that it was still in the parking lot at the bar... whoops. once someone came to pick me up and bring me to my car, i decided to try the Dam from shore this afternoon, as i haven't been there in quite some time.
it was cloudy and calm today, would have been a perfect day to put my boat out there (it seems like its ALWAYS choppy at this lake). unfortunately my subaru is still broken, and i can't transport my john boat on my escort :(. so... i fished from the rocks on the western shore, right near the spillway. i was getting hits from small smallies intermittently throughout the afternoon. i landed 1 and a half... one pictured here:

and another one about the same size which shook himself off the hook as i lifted him out of the water. i had two more on that i never saw, and one more which jumped and threw my spinnerbait.
i had the most luck with a small green skirted football head jig, with a green/white ribbontail worm as a trailer. most strikes came on the drop, seemingly just before hitting bottom. i also tried a white willow/colorado spinnerbait (nothing) and a chart double willow spinnerbait (hooked one but didnt land it).
for their size smallies sure do put up a fight! i'm going to have to pick up some tubes and head down there again soon. i was using my medium casting setup with 10lb line today, will probably try my light spinning setup next time with 6lb.

nice job! I was there today with my boat and i caught 12 smallies 1 larry around the foundation across from the end of the peninsula and got a few out of the spill way too. it was probably the most action ive ever had out of one spot .I was using a smoke/red fleck tube with 1/4oz jig head. give the tube a try if you can get out in your boat,or even off shore.

i wound up going there yesterday as well, in the afternoon though. i fished from the end of the peninsula, but kept seeing fish breaking out near that foundation. wound up catching two smallies on senkos... but it sounds like i definitely need to get out there in my boat! It was kind of a surprise trip so i didn't end up getting any tubes yet... next time though for sure
by the way 13 fish off of one piece of structure is pretty awesome!
