Tyler Lake 02/14

I spent an hour typing up a detailed report and lost it :x , so here's an abbreviated report. I fished with jonnyfly00 (aka Jon). We got on the ice at the state boat launch ramp and stayed out from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm. The sky was totally overcast all day. There was only a light south breeze with periods of no wind at all. The air temperature rose from the low 30s to the low 40s while we were on the ice. Although the southwest quarter of the lake is open, we found seven inches of ice almost everywhere. The thinnest ice I saw was still six inches thick! :D The ice moaned and groaned all day. It even made noises like an approaching jet airplane that would suddenly disappear like Amelia Earhart. We each jigged up lots of yellow perch, mostly in eight to nine feet of water. I jigged up our only sunny and our only chain pickerel. Jon got three flags; one wind, one fish that got off in the weeds and one nice largemouth bass. I got no flags, but a decent perch magically replaced the large shiner that I had set on one of my traps. Okay, here are some photos. My first two perch were tiny: [img:3fc490f9a6]http://img85.imageshack.us/img85/5193/img1541b.jpg[/img:3fc490f9a6] [img:3fc490f9a6]http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/2692/img1542pj.jpg[/img:3fc490f9a6] But the third one and everything after was decent: [img:3fc490f9a6]http://img546.imageshack.us/img546/9421/img1543d.jpg[/img:3fc490f9a6] The sunny: [img:3fc490f9a6]http://img705.imageshack.us/img705/8430/img1544d.jpg[/img:3fc490f9a6] Jon's 18 inch bass: [img:3fc490f9a6]http://img827.imageshack.us/img827/1246/img1547cropped.jpg[/img:3fc490f9a6] [img:3fc490f9a6]http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/9319/img1550croppedmore.jpg[/img:3fc490f9a6] [img:3fc490f9a6]http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/5779/img1551cropped.jpg[/img:3fc490f9a6] My magic 9-1/2 inch perch: [img:3fc490f9a6]http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/1055/img1552cropped.jpg[/img:3fc490f9a6] The pickerel: [img:3fc490f9a6]http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/127/img1553cropped.jpg[/img:3fc490f9a6] Jon and I both think that the ice will hold up for a while. It was solid and super thick on the west shore, and was totally locked to the ramp. We didn't get any flags and got very little while jigging in the deeper water beyond the weedline. If you head out there, brave the weeds! That's where I'll be.
