Missed the big one!
Message:
I went out yesterday morning to the thompson dam fishing off the end of the peninsula. The lake was about 50% ice. I started off throwing a float and fly for about a half hour and got no hits, so i grabbed my jerk bait setup with a lucky craft pointer.
I started out throwing it out over the deep section for about 10 casts, nothing out there, so i threw it down the side of the bank to the left, right where the bank dropped of into about 10ft of water. And about half way in when the bait was suspending for about 5 seconds, the slack in my line quickly went out and my rod almost went for a ride! I had a beast of a large mouth on. It looked to be 4lb easily.
I got the fish over to the side off the wall where it's only about a foot off the water, and when i went to lip it i see its got my jerk bait completely sideways in it's mouth, so i then tried to grab it by its belly and somehow the jerk bait just pops out of its mouth and he swims off. I slapped my self in the face a few times for not bringing the net and took a few more casts down the edge of the bank and got no more hits. Almost had me a nice open water winter bass.
