Connecticut River - Keeney Cove 03/09
Message:
I didn't want to sit around on my butt, today, so I arranged to meet DirtyDawg10 (aka Derek) at Keeney Cove for some lunchtime fishing. The sky was only partly cloudy and there was a five to 10 mile per hour breeze out of the north. The water temperature was only 47.4 degrees and the water was very murky, with visibility down only a foot. We launched from Point Road at 11:45 pm. I pedaled The Other Woman and Derek paddled La Calabaza. The water level was slightly high and the tide was going out. I marked some fish on my finder about 10 feet down in 22 feet of water near the culvert under Point Road, but didn't feel like tying on a drop shot. We worked our way counterclockwise around the cove. Although we went to the culvert under Route 3, we didn't go into it. The west side of the middle cove is super shallow. When we were halfway back to Point Road, I swapped out my big gold War Eagle spinnerbait for a smaller white Strike King Red Eye spinnerbait. I really wasn't expecting to catch anything with such a fast moving lure, but told Derek that I thought it would look more like a white perch than the gold War Eagle did. On my first cast with it, I hooked into a small fish. When I told Derek that I thought I had a fish on, he thought I was kidding. To our surprise, I boated a solid little 13 inch largemouth bass:

Whoo hoo! After three trips out onto the water, I finally got the skunk off of my boat. Unfortunately, Derek soon had to head back to work and we got off of the water at 1:15 pm.
