Connecticut River - Hamburg Cove 03/15
Message:
I fished Hamburg Cove, again, today. I launched The Other Woman at the ramp next to the Hamburg Cove Yacht Club. I was on the water from 9:15 am to 5:00 pm. The water temperature ranged from 48 to 50 degrees and it was clear, but I couldn't really see anything in the water because of the waves. I don't think that the air temperature got out of the 40s all day. The sun didn't peek out from behind the clouds much, either. And the wind blew steadily out of the south at up to 10 miles per hour for most of the day. Unfortunately, I was expecting better weather, so I was under-dressed and [i:6368c99627][b:6368c99627]cccold[/b:6368c99627][/i:6368c99627]! But I caught a lot of fish! :D I pedaled around the inner cove for a while, but didn't see anything in the water or on my fish finder, so I headed across to the steel seawall. Sure enough, I caught a nice largemouth bass with a four inch white grub on a black 1/8 ounce shakeyhead jighead:

I pedaled into the outer cove and hooked up with what I thought was my first white perch of the day but, to my surprise, was a little schoolie striper:

Soon after, I caught the first of more than four dozen white perch with a 1/16 ounce round jighead and two inch chartreuse curlytail grub:

I caught small white perch all day, but never got into any schools. I caught them onesy-twosy, here and there, from time to time. It wasn't until the tide started flowing in during the afternoon that I caught any that were big enough to be worth keeping. I ended up keeping eight that were between 10 and 11 inches long. Before that, though, I caught a couple of more largemouth bass:

And around noon, I caught a couple of more stripers, including a 19 incher:

The 19 inch striper put up the best fight of any fish all day. :D And I caught a couple of small pickerel, too. Oh, and I caught more than a dozen yellow perch, half of which were 11 to 12 inches long:

All in all, I had a pretty good day on the water, despite the weather. :D
