FISHING ON THE THAMES RIVER

Im new to the groton/ new london area. ive done some fishing last year and had some luck. This year i wanna step it up and really catch some fish. Could anyone point me in the direction of some hot places up and down the river. greenwood damn from what i heard is where they are now.

I think you mean Greenville Damn up the river from norwich, and yes they do go up that far and is a great spot if timed right.

early on in the season, the stripers will head all the way up to the dam, surprising that such big fish can travel through that rough water, but they do. fast moving topwater or shad body lures, but be careful. lot of snags to be had there, and there's certain areas where you're not supposed to be. so i would look into it. as the season progresses, they can get HEAVY down in the harbor. especially if the bunker get pushed into there. there's been times where everyone on the dock was hittin em. snag n drop bunker if you can, or at least get one to chunk. dont think anyone will disagree with me, fresh is way better than frozen. keep your eye on the reports, talk to people, etc. you'll get the scoop on places to go and what to do.
