Hi everyone, my name is James and I live in Windsor. You can usually find me spring fishing for shad and stripers on the Farmington and CT rivers around Windsor. During the summer I switch over to large mouth fishing on the local lakes and ponds. Can't wait to get that first shad of the season!

Hey, James. I haven't caught any shad, yet. Are they good eating or just good bait?

Hi Phil,
Hello James, welcome!
Shad are excellent eating!
They are boney though and you need to learn how to fillet them properly.
There's a very few commercial Shad fishermen out of Haddam, Ct. still and there's a fellow (in Haddam) that sells the Shad fillets as well as Smoked Shad.
The roe (caviar) is a particular delicacy which I relish very much :!:
The Penn. Dutch have a slow cook method on a cedar plank that is super as the slow cook method melts the bones much like salmon.
Haven't looked -> but there may be a video on youtube on how to fillet them.
As for recipes -> I have a couple that I have to dig out!
