CT River 04/11

My evening freed up at the last minute and I grabbed the opportunity to head down to the water. Sandworms and friend in tow, we hit the banks around 7. The wind was pretty stiff and breezy from the northwest, but the water wasn't breaking or moving too bad. The tide seemed to be just about peak high tide so we started by casting up river. Hit a single schoolie between the two of us and the sun went down. Nibbles, bites, etc. were non existent so we decided to head a little down river to another reliable spot. Few more schoolies came in on worms when this bad boy hit. First keeper of 2012! I was expecting it to be a catfish or a carp (every other time this year I have hoped for a striper it has been...) but a few runs took some line off my drag on my Battle 4000, so I was slowly becoming a believer as the fight wore on! Measured and weighed it came in a 32", 10lbs.... nice lean male, or so I think... EDIT: Resized the picture a little better!

Congratulations on the keeper! I'm jealous. I have yet to catch one, although I got a couple of schoolies, today.

We are going to head out this weekend and a few days next week. If you want to ditch the kayak, you are more than welcome to join us. You might have to dedicate one rod to bait though :) I turned a couple of my friends onto this forum and they are duly impressed with your fishing reports. I'm sure they would like to meet a legend of the paddle. :P
