Quinnipiac River - Red Bridge

Took my daughter to the Quinnipiac River Watershed Association fishing derby Saturday morning. It was our first derby ever. My son was feeling under the weather, so he came later with mom. Daughter and I got there at 7:30 a.m. and to my surprise, we were the first to get there. They had coffee, hot chocolate & donuts for the participants. Very Nice! I checked in and decided to head on over to Red Bridge and fish the open area there. I later found out that most of the participants fished Hanover Pond. I figured that the best option was to use nightcrawlers, since most fish will hit them. Shortly after setting up our spot and getting the bait wet, my daughter got her first bite. I figure about 2lbs. Heck, I never caught a smallmouth! It was a joint effort. She then hooked into a yellow perch. Followed by a rainbow trout. I then told her to pick up the rod because we should recast. Then she says that she has a fish on. I didn't believe her at first, but the rod was doubled over! Then she caught another yellow perch. Making her total for the day = 5 My son and wife got there and he managed to get a yellow perch before heading on over for the raffle and cook out. The kids came home with some nice prizes, had some food and drinks, & got a chance to chat with some nice people. Thanks to Jonathan Dingle for doing a great job with the derby. I hope more people will show up next year. From what I heard, my daughter must have caught the most. Also the most variety. Chip off the old block!
