Connecticut River carp - New PB
Message:
My buddies and I have been putting in the effort and elbow grease by taking a ride out to one of our favorite Connecticut River Carp fishing spots and pre-baiting over the last couple of weeks to pull extra carp into our swim and get them feeding on our bait. We have fished the spot a few times over the last couple of weeks catching a number of carp under the recognized trophy carp weight of 20 pounds specified in the back of the CT anglers guides. Sunday morning of May the 6th myself and my two buddies attended the carp fish-in at Batterson pond in I believe Farmington or New Brittan sponsored by Connecticut Outfitters of Wethersfield. The area was pre-baited and atleast a couple dozen carp anglers from across and out of state showed up for the event. I was only able to fish until 11am dude to my grandfathers suprise 80th bday party. I didnt see any carp pulled in from where i was positioned but quickly word spread around the pond that one of the guys caught a 38 pounder. The thing was a absolute hog and I believe my buddy Justin Solak has the picture he may post if he hasnt already. Anyhow my buddies relocated to our spot on the CT river and I met up with them after the party. We got our lines in the water at about 5 pm and it was maybe a hour before I had a carp pulling out line. I set the hook, did battle and my buddy netted this fish for me. I was a happy camper and set the bar to beat this year between my group of carp fishin buddies. Trying to make the most of the available daylight I scrambled and got my rig back in order and sent her back out into the river. A half hour went by and I had another carp pulling line out and to make a long story short we got the fish safely into the net and into our weigh sling and she came in at 23 pounds 11 ounces. My friends and I stuck around till about 9 pm and I believe we got a few more quick pulls but no more fish on the bank. All in all a solid quick session and more importantly it told us we had bigger fish in our swim. May 7th my buddy who is new to fishing called me up and finally decided it was time he bought himself a good carp rod equipped with a Bait-Feeder reel, so I met him at Cabellas in about 15 minutes as we both live in town. He ended up purchasing a nice set up and we decided to hit the CT river for 5 oclock. We showed up to our spot and got set up and we were in the water at 5pm and it was aprox 2 hours after high tide. The wind was blistering but we stuck it out and boy am I glad we did. Nearly 2 hours into our session I got my first run and set the hook and I knew immediatly it was a biggen as it peeled line off my reel in a beastly fashion. 10 minutes later this Beautiful carp was safely on shore. This thing had giant round belly on it. We ended up staying till about 10pm tonight and I ended up hooking into a total of 5 carp tonight one of which being a 23 pounder and the 3 smaller carp. I apologize for the inconvenience in the size of the pictures but I am not the most computer savy guy around and I will soon have my buddy run me through the process. Anyway the big carp are currently biting as they seem to normally due in the spring so get out there and wet a line![/img]

That is awesome man! I love carp fishing on the River. That thing is a beast! I've had some huge carp on in the past but have never been able to land one that big. They either spool the reel or break off. I had one on years ago up in the Salmon River that had to be about 5 feet long and around 60lbs it ended up breaking the line after three of us tried to land it along the side of the boat. They really are a game fish that more people should try to fish for! They fight better than stripers and they're always around! Great job dude! That's a terrific picture and catch!
