We finally got a weekend day that didn't blow out of the East at 20 knots, beautiful day for a boat ride. Went out with Seahunt Al, we looked for some bait, scattered small schools of bunker around, looked for porgy but came up empty (where are they? soon....). We made way to Ram Island near Mystic and around Fishers Island and Race Rock doing the usual stuff like tube and worm and casting to our usual hot spots, no takers. Just killing time till the tide was right on the Watch Hill reefs. We arrived at Watch Hill after an long boat ride, It payed off, we were into a lot of Stripers and an occasional Blue, all stripers were 29+ inches hitting top water plugs largest being 35". All caught on top water 247Lures Squid-Zee dressed with a 9" Bulb Head Squid Skirt in a amber translucent color and also a Sea Special in a common Montauk surf fishing color Red Head/Yellow body. Epic year for squid in the Eastern Sound all the way to Point Judith, going on 4-5 weeks now. Also saw huge schools of Silversides. Fished till dark than headed to the barn.
