Avoiding the high sun and crowds is a perk of working second and third shift and being a fisherman. I'm lucky enough to be able to share some time on the water when few people are even up and making coffee, and it has paid off immensely in the last 2 weeks. Fishing a trio of topwater lures and flukes, as well as the old standby spinner, i've managed 175 bass in the boat last week over 4 half day trips, and in 2 days this week have landed 76 fish, to 4pounds 10 ounches. Of those, about 30 have been largemouths, the rest have been smallmouths averaging 2 pounds, but each day sees a half dozen fish over 19 inches, and usually 2-3 over 20inches. I picked up a tip from an article about trusting dark colored light braid in place of flouro or mono, with the idea being its nearly invisible, it allows for a further cast, and it usually tests well above its rated breaking strength. opted for 10 pound power pro, and have had stellar results. I do the same on the other end O'. I work midnights in an ER, and am out on the bass water usually from 17-2200. I love top water fishing at night.
