Summer of the Sea Robin

New member Chris and I headed out onto the Reef Wednesday afternoon. High tide for Bridgeport was scheduled for 6:02pm. We fished the Reef for about 3 hours.
For the 3 hours we were out there, no topwater action for both of us.
No matter what plug you threw, those "things" were at it again. 3 plugs Chris threw were a Crystal Minnow, Red Fin, and a Flat Rap. I stuck with the Flat Rap.
He caught 1 with the Red Fin and 3 with the Crystal Minnow. Every other one he and I caught was on the 10cm Flat Rap. Both of us lost count but we had to have reached close to 50 combined. I even hit a double on the Flat Rap!!!
This was Chris's first time in waders and throwing plugs and poppers in the surf. He seemed to have enjoyed it and considered it a fun experience vs chunking. We plan on getting out in the surf more and I'll introduce him to more places.
A fly fisherman arrived around peak high tide. He wasn't getting anything except for "them". He and I discussed about recent action at the Reef. He was out there 2 weeks ago around the time my dad and I were there hitting the blues and he was into blues and stripers with bait around. For the past 1 1/2 or 2 weeks now, bait has left and "they" have taken over.

I caught at least 30 of those things in the past 3 days. They are hitting everything, bait and lures. There is a terrible outbreak of sea robins.
