Farmington, Curtiss Park 6/30

I decided to head to the Farmington River for some fishing today. I really wanted to fulfill my goal of catching a fallfish. It's been a while since I've landed one and I just couldn't wait to track one down. I launched from Curtiss at about 7:45am. It was beautiful but the full sun was a bit tougher for the fishing. I started out trolling a Bomber silver square bill crank up river for about a mile to where the river and Rt 10 are feet apart. Got nothing trolling up. From there I started drifting back down river and casting my crankbait into the shade. There are lots of laydowns and plenty of smallies. Unfortunately they are small smallies. I had a few hits but couldn't get the hooks in any fish. I reeled in the crankbait in and switched out the old trebles. On the next cast I landed my first fish which was a decent size fallfish, woohoo!! The second fish was a smallie and it was only about 10" long. Unfortunately my camera batteries were dead so I didn't get to take any pics. Not that there were any photo worthy fish caught but the scenery was fantastic! At about 10:30am Phil (PECo) showed up and we fished from the Rt 315 bridge down to the power lines into the small cove. We got off the water at about 1:15pm. I ended up landing... 9 - smallies 2 - LMB 4 - Fallfish (Yeah Baby!!!) 1 - Sunny 1 - Yellow perch The bass were all under keeper length. The fallfish were all right around 12" to 14". I didn't measure any fish though so I may have landed a trophy fallfish and not even known about it. All fish were caught on the silver crank with the exception of a couple of smallies that I landed on a 5" wacky senko. Nice day on the water so I can't complain. I already put some extra camera batteries in my tackle bag so my report will have pics next time ;)

Yeah...the "cove" I talked about was the dead end branch of the river near the park. We didn't see much in there today except for some small bass and sunnies. It is a carry in place and it's a nice paddle as well.
