Was at candlewood again with my friends and we didnt fish much until we went to the sandbar (i think the island next to it is deer island maybe?) and the four of us were fishing. I had a gitzit on my dads carrotstick, two of my friends had kailins green weenie, and my other friend had i think a 2'' hair jig. We were tossing the lures into deeper water off the sandbar and were nailing 2-3lb smallies and 14'' perch. Candlewood is such an amazing smallmouth lake. The fish are healthy, strong, and very colorful. We kepcatching them during the middle of the day (1ish). I caught them by casting it as far as i could and kept my line tight as the lure sank and id feel a hit everytime it sank. If nothing got the lure on the drop i would twitch my gitzit while winding in medium speed and then pause and let my gitzit back to bottom. This method was DEADLY!!! After about 15 smallmouth and 10 perch my friend thats new to fishing said he thinks he has something huge on. About 20 feet off the sandbar we saw a huge bass jump. I had to swim out a little bit to keep her out of the weeds. We got her in and got the lenght and girth. 22'' and girth wasnt too accurate but i had 16 inches. My fishing tape measure wasnt with me so i had to use a carpenters tape measure so it was probably an inch or so off. I did the calculations and got 5.12 pounds but we said said around 4 1/2. She was very cool looking!! If i figure out how to do this right i will get a picture up!

Sounds like a good day to me. I agree, seems like Candlewood smallies are always beautiful fish.

Both the largemouth and smallmouth i've caught there have all had great coloring. The smallies were very bright. I saw a beautiful largemouth at my marina next to the dock that had to be pushing 5-6 pounds. By the time I had my pole ready he was gone under the dock somewhere. He had a very vibrant and defined black, blotchy stripe and dark back that I could easily see in th crystal clear 4 fow. Btw I believe I know the island you speak of. I was just there and fished for a little bit with some senkos wacky rigged and caught a nice keeper smallie and largemouth. The smallie was 16 inches and the largemouth was about the same I believe.
