Morey Pond
Message:
Went to Morey Pond in Union on 7/4/12 with my neighbor. We took his Scanoe with his trolling motor.
The lake is a 44 acre lake in Union which is cut into two lakes by I84. The first lake where the boat launch is, a small one that I find shallow and seems to have more weed closer to the surface. The second lake is deeper and bigger with the weeds not coming as close to the surface. There are no houses around the lake and no water skiing.
The plan was to fish from 6:00 AM, (I got the am pm thing right this time) to about 10:00 AM/ but when we got there is was still raining so we waited a half an hour. Only people there when we put in. There were bugs on top of the water but no surface action which I thought was strange.
I fished wacky rigged green senko to start and my neighbor fished a SSR perch to start in the first lake starting on the west side. My neighbor got a hit right away from a keeper Pickerel. I missed a good hit on the senko and a short time later switched to an F-7 Gold Rapala and caught a keeper pickerel fist cast. Continued around the west bank and caught a smaller pickerel on a SSR perch.
Made our way to the tunnel to his the second lake and started going counter clockwise around the edges as it was still very overcast out. We threw everything Stirke King Rage frogs, crank baits, worms and such and my neighbor caught a few sun fish and a perch. On the east side of the larger pond I caught a LMB that was about a pound sorry for the bad picture, in about three feet of water.

Continued to throw different crank baits, swim baits and such with only a couple of small bass that were not brought to the boat. Not much in the way of seeing pan fish either while were out there. Continued around the lake as the sun came out from the clouds and a few more boats hit the water. Went back through the tunnel and fished the east side of the smaller lake back to the ramp without a bite. The only thing I did not throw was a spinner bait. Got off the water at 10:00 AM then went to work for 3:30 PM to 2:30 AM the next day and boy was I tired.

Every time I drive over Morey Pond, I promise myself that I'll fish it, someday. The largemouth bass bite was slow at Batterson Park Pond, too. I would have fished a dropshot close to the bottom, if Batterson weren't so weedy. I'm going to dig out the tackle for a Carolina Rig.

Phil and Mase, another very productive Rapala you should consider is the Jointed Shad Rap. I saw in one of your reports Phil you tried trolling with a JSR-7 but were picking up weeds. I'd go with a size 5 or 4 instead. Size 4 gets to a maximum of 6 feet while size 5 gets down to 11 feet. That vibration from the swimming action grabs those fish's attention! Silver Shad has always been my best color no matter what type of fish it is.
