Left the Niantic launch at 7:30PM with Pops, Marco and his cousin Robert from Holland for his first shot at a striped bass. On the way out were 2 very large logs 1' dia x 30' long floating between Millstone and Bartlett’s. I was hoping not to meet them on the way back in.

While waiting for the sun to go down we fished the middle race targeting blues for shark bait later next week. Marco was in the zone with a bluefish on the first drop of the diamond jig. The drift was very fast with the wind and tide at 90 degrees to each other. We got 4 blues before the sun set then headed over to Valiant Rock to sling some eels.

Quite a few boats out Saturday night with the fleet spread out evenly all along the reef. On our 3rd drift Robert said he was stuck on bottom plus caught on the motor. Pretty funny to hear him swear in Dutch, count not understand what he was saying but by his tone it was quite clear what was being spoken Wink. After getting the line unwrapped from the motor he said he was still stuck on the bottom as his line would not budge. Noticing that his rod tip was bobbing wildly I told him he had a fish on and start cranking it in. He boated his first ever bass, a nice fat 38”. Robert had us snap a bunch of pictures on his camera to impress his fishing buddies back home.
We caught several more bass and called it a night @ 11:30PM. The bass had juvenile porgies and a skate in its stomach.
